Creatine Journey Number Five

Hello all! Since the last the weigh-in, I have gained one pound. So, it seems that I am starting to slow down and plateau. Additionally, the only muscle circumference changes are .25” in both lower arm and lower leg circumference. My upper arms and lower legs are still the same circumference as last time. Below is the picture of the scale (please ignore the Snoopy pajamas). See you next time!

Creatine Journey Number Four

First off, I am sorry for missing a week, but my mom was in Texas for work and therefore I was not at her house at all. As promised in the last blog, I will be measuring the circumference of my upper and lower arms as well as my upper and lower legs (no flex). The measurements are as follows:

upper arms: 13”

lower arms: 11.5”

upper legs: 21”

lower legs: 15.25”

I will get a picture of my weight on a scale the next time I am at my mother’s house. Adios!

Raspberry Pi

The Raspberry Pi is a cheap (< $40) computer that is approximately the size of a case of Altoids mints, which makes it perfect for teaching students how to program. The Raspberry Pi requires an external monitor, keyboard, and mouse. Additionally, a WiFi dongle can be purchased to give the Raspberry Pi wireless capabilities. Students could bring the small, compact computer to school in their backpack and hook it up to the previously stated devices in technology class, and then bring the computer home and plug it in to their own devices at home to continue working on a technology project or start a new project to further explore the applications of the Raspberry Pi.

Educators can use the Raspberry Pi to teach students about circuits and programming with numerous projects. For example, students can learn how to setup an LED circuit and use the Python programming language to control LED blinking patterns, or even control color transitions with an RGB LED. People with advanced skills have created Raspberry Pi controlled drones, autonomous plant watering devices, and have even automated their homes! There are a multitude of creative, productive, and fun projects to create with the Raspberry Pi.

 

The Raspberry Pi community is incredible as well. People share step-by-step instructions for their projects and help others who are struggling with other projects. (Website Example for Project Ideas and Instructions).

Overall, the Raspberry Pi is an affordable and entertaining way to learn and improve upon programming and physical computing skills for students of all technological levels.

Creatine Journey Number Three

The weight continues to go up, and no dietary changes have been made! However, I strongly believe the weight is mainly water weight, for creatine increases the body’s ability to retain water. I will start measuring the circumference of my upper arms, upper legs, and lower legs to measure if my muscles are getting bigger, which would mean that I am gaining muscle mass.

Creatine Journey Number Two

First off, weight measurements will now be made on Wednesdays. Originally, I planned to measure my weight on Fridays, but this plan fell apart because I am not always at my moms house on Friday (my mom’s house is the only house with a scale). The picture below depicts my new weight.

Since the beginning of the journey, I have gained 4.4 lbs, which I am very impressed with. I have not made any diet changes that would have affected the weight gain. The only side effects I experienced were headaches and feeling bloated in the first couple days.

Creatine Journey

For my Individual Learning Endeavor (ILE) I will be taking creatine, a weight gaining supplement that I have never taken before, every day and working out six days a week for a minimum of 30 minutes (so I can use class time to lift if need be). The goal of my ILE is to be able to support or reject the claim that creatine is an effective weight gaining supplement and to educate people on the possible side effects of creatine. At the end of each week, I will post a blog, which will contain a picture of my weight that I will compare weekly. The image below depicts my weight before taking any creatine.

Help Desk Student Center Day Two

Today, a teacher came down with one of his students iPad. He was unable to search anything on the iPad and wondered what could be causing the issue. He let me look at the iPad and I went to settings to see if restrictions were turned on, which they were. I clicked on restrictions and it required the restrictions passcode, which the teacher did not have so he said he would come back to help desk later when he gets the restriction code from the student’s mother. He was the on,y person to come down to the student center today.

Help Desk Student Center Day One

Today, a student came down because most of his apps on his iPad were removed. Immediately, I assumed he lost connection with the Self Service app. However, I found out he lost connection to his iTunes profile and needed to reverify his account. However, the verification process required typing in a code that was shared to trusted devices, which I assumed the help desk in the media center would have because he has a school owned iPad. Thus, I told him the help desk center in the media center would be his best bet for verifying his account.

Additionally, Mrs. Hennessy required our opinion regarding wether or not she needed a speaker. We told her she needs an additional speaker in order for the sound to be louder because her volume was maxed out and could still barely be heard (the sound seemed to be coming from the modem, which I have never seen before).

Should I Wear Pants Today? App Review

image At first glance, this app may seem like a joke due to its name. However, this app offers a solution to a common question regarding what attire would be best for the day based on the weather. Nobody wants to spend their day at school sweating in a pair of jeans because they didn’t check the humidity for the day or shivering in a pair of shorts because they did not account for the cold wind. Should I Wear Pants Today? quickly gives the three most important factors for determining whether or not to wear long pants: humidity, wind temperature, and average temperature. In my opinion, simple apps are the most visually attractive and effective; Should I Wear Pants Today? is a simple app that is very easy to use. If you have location services enabled, click on the menu button in the top left hand corner and select current location to receive the weather report for your location.

If you want to add a different city or you do not have location services enabled, click on the plus icon in the top right corner and search your city in the search bar.

If you have multiple locations to look at, click on the menu icon and select the location you want to view from the menu.

Overall, I am very impressed with this app and will continue to use it in the future.
